CRATES ~ GATES ~ PENS
Crates are amazing! Now hear me out :) Proper confinement done right helps pups turn out just right! The goal is that your doodle will in time be a well behaved dog lounging around your home welcoming visitors with perfect manners. I will be sending you home with a wonderful puppy no doubt! Puppies are super fun, but they need lots of training. Potty training, crate training, and contentment training are some of the puzzle pieces that you will need to put together as you are on your training journey this year. The items below in this category are items that I recommend!
When I keep a puppy at my home I gate off my areas that have rugs or carpet. I crate train my young pup, and my adolescent until he reaches adulthood. That is why I need the small crate and then a "graduate crate"!
I suggest the " New World" wire crate, which is down below. It has adjustable features, so it enables the crate to grow with your pup!
If your puppy is in the big crate initially your puppy will tend to go potty in the back, and lay down in the front. If in a small crate puppies tend not to go potty in areas that they sleep in. Also cozy is good. We want your pup to have that den-safe feeling in a nice small crate at first. A little puppy in a big crate will not have that cozy den feeling. The small crate helps your puppy learn to "hold it".
The pens down below are wonderful! You can configure them different ways very easily. You can buy the extra panels if you need to! I like plastic instead of metal because it is light to move. I also like the free standing wood gates for smaller spaces. They are handy to block off between furniture or entryways.

CLEAN ~ GROOM ~ CARE
Your doodle has a beautiful coat! Long term your doodle will need to be professionally groomed every 2-5 months, but you will groom your doodle in between. As a young puppy it will be quite easy to care for. When I have a puppy I sometimes let their hair grow out for the first 6 months. I just trim around their eyes, brush them regularly, bathe them once a month, and cut their nails. ( I understand that most people take their pup to the groomer sooner. I like my doodles hair to grow long!)
Here are some suggestions on how to use the products! Initially, brush your puppy out several times a week. Introducing puppy to the grooming experience in a super positive way is key! Ever so gently using the green brush. You are saving the red brush and the green comb for later. But trust me..... buy the red brush now. You might think $75.00 for a brush! Annie is crazy! As your doodle matures so will his/her coat, and all of a sudden you will notice tangles that are all most impossible to get out unless you have Annie's red brush! Reach for that brush! It is wonderful!
Another product I can not say enough about is the Crown Royale Magic Touch! It too is great for when your doodle has matured a bit and combing out is getting to be a challenge! My groomer got me onto this, and I use it on the dogs every time I bathe them, and also I have it in a spray bottle by the mudroom door. If I am bringing the dogs in the house and they are wet from being out in the rain for a walk. I spray them down with it so their coats don't tangle.
The grooming table is NOT a must, but if you have room in your home it sure makes brushing out your doodle so easy. I love my table because it holds up the front and the back of the dog. That way they learn to stand nice and still and you can get all those hard to get spots where tangles like to hide. (where their legs meet their body, the belly, the legs, the tail, under the collar) With my adult doodles I get them up on my grooming table twice a week for a good brushing- head to tail. This is how I am able to keep their coats nice and long. Then when I send then to the groomer I ask them to give them a "scissors cut". This is a cut that gives a certain look that I love the dogs that live at my home to have. :)
Because of extra moisture in the Great NW some doodles with their floppy- hairy ears tend to get ears that begin to smell and produce a black substance. Zymox is my go to for this.

FUN~ CHEW~ TRAIN
Puppies love to chew! It is a big part of their wonderful development! They chew on and off all day long. A dog to continue to actively chew up to 10 months to a year can be expected. When you have chew toys around you encourage your doodle to chew on the right objects. I know you will do your part by puppy proofing your home before you bring your new family member home. When you puppy proof you will need to take up every object- shoes, books, kids toys, TV remotes, phones, mail, and put it out of reach of puppy. Basically until your puppy stops chewing on everything in sight:)
Our dogs and puppies have tested these fun items below out. I am super picky about my dog toys. The wrong toy can be dangerous for a pup if it is not well made. I am always inspecting the toys, and bones if they are getting too worn I toss them. I only use Nyla bone brand for my dog bones. I do NOT recommend ever giving your dog real bones. I think your pup will love these!
